There are 4 types of classes a person can fall into which determines their role in the RISING:

Hunters - can use melee weapons/foam boffers, use shields, and even use basic firearms in the game. They are also able to use both hands to fight if they choose to dual wield.
Marksmen- are the snipers/rangers of the game. They can use advanced firearms and salvage ammunition found in the game. They are also capable of aiming their shots to do a "headshot" in game.
Engineers - are the rogues/smiths of the game. They are able to solve puzzles which stand in the group's way. They can also use basic firearms.
Doctors - are the breath of the group, and give life back into a dying member by first aid. They are also the only ones in game who can create antivirus and administer it, along with any other drug in game (such as steroids and stim packs). Doctors can use small/basic melee weapons.
